UPDATED: Liebster Award (kinda) and the blogging community

Not the Average Mama and Sugar and Spice, Everything Nice nominated me for the Liebster Award, and I am so appreciative.  What is the Liebster Award you ask?  Well the way it was explained to me is

“The Liebster Award is a new-comer award given by bloggers to other bloggers, it creates a great platform for new blogs to be discovered and build communications. The best thing about this award is, it creates a lot of encouragement and support within our blogging community.”

I actually love the idea behind the award and did a Liebster Award post (https://bigandpinkytoes.wordpress.com/2016/02/29/ive-been-nominated-happy-face-emoji-here/ ) about a month ago to pretty lukewarm response.  I from the bottom of my heart appreciate it though.

Not the Average Mama writes about her journey being a wife and step mom.  Sugar and Spice, Everything Nice writes about her estrogen dominated family and crazy life antics. Both are funny and thoughtful blogs that I love and look forward to reading.  I checked out all of their nominees, and I encourage you to visit their pages as well as their nominees’ sites.

The nomination coincides with a blog post idea I had. Before I started blogging I had no clue that there is an entire blogging community. I now know this sounds ridiculous. I think I pictured bloggers to be in competition with each other, but that’s not the case at all. There’s this whole support system of other people who are writing and encouraging one another. I have yet to come across any trolls or negative feedback.

For anybody toying with the idea of starting a blog, I would encourage you to do so. It’s not about the number of followers or likes. It’s an outlet. It’s therapeutic. It’s a way to learn about yourself.

Another amazing part about the blogging community is that you get to learn about other people’s lives both similar and completely different than your own. You can follow travelers, daily lives of people across the world, people in other professions, foodies, pretty much anything. So instead of the Liebster nominations here are some of my favorite blogs. I hope you check them out.
