How do you all feel about the On This Day or TimeHop on Facebook? I have mixed feelings.
Hands down without a doubt, the older the post is the dumber it is. Really my super old and embarrassing stuff is on MySpace. Thank the lord I don’t have a daily reminder of those. My older posts from Facebook though has lots ambiguous stuff like, “Whew that was a bad day,” or “So thankful.” Ummmm okay. . . Why? About what?
I also see a pattern of posting being sick a lot in the winter, about basketball and football through the spring and fall, and about it being hot in the summer. I want to tell me from 7 years ago that nobody cares. Stop posting this stuff!
Some days there won’t be anything from On This Day. Other days will have dozens of posts. Is there anything to that pattern? Why are certain days over the course of years consistently busier than others? I’m probably looking too much into that, but it is kind of strange.
I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. I get tired of seeing every single thought and opinion of everyone I’ve ever known, but then I appreciate that I get to keep in touch with friends and family so easily. The On This Day feature just mirrors that love/hate Facebook relationship.
There have been several little moments regarding my kiddos that I have posted about and since forgotten. Seeing those moments on my feed and remembering them all over again is so much fun. But then it also breaks my heart a little. It makes me sad that I didn’t remember these little moments on my own and that Facebook had to remind me. Also I am constantly reminded about just how fast they are growing up. Thank you so much stupid Facebook and On This Day.
Today though, it had lots of good stuff for me. It reminded me of when my daughter was 8 months old I made her belly laugh till she snorted multiple times. It reminded me of the first time our kids stayed overnight away from us. I had several small panic attacks, and they had the time of their lives. There was a picture of my herb garden 2 years ago after a good rain. I apparently thought an episode of Sesame Street was hilarious when Mr. Miyagi was teaching Cookie Monster “biscotti karate.” Aaaand then there was this, which is still mostly true:
So am I the only one with a complicated relationship with these Facebook features?
I love them until they show me my ex boyfriend lol usually I cringe at some things, but most of the time it reminds me of things I’ve forgotten which is nice 🙂

I agree about what’s forgotten.

Reblogged this on Carly's Comments on Life and commented:
I have been thinking along the same things lately. I do happen to love the On This Day feature, and previously blogged about my nostalgia fix with TBT, but I do identify with this post. Do you?

I’ve been off Facebook for two years now (can’t remember the exact year i cut the cord) and your post reminds me that I’m still not ready to go back. Man, to have some of the craziness from years past pop up in my feed – that would not be cool, lol.

I think about leaving FB from time to time, especially during election years. I end up just going through phases of not looking.
I know! Some of the stuff that pops up, well I’d rather just forget about lol.

I hardly ever visit fb anymore. Sometimes I’ll post a new picture of my boys for family but that’s about it. It seems like same-old-(stuff)-different-day. Some people really make my eyes roll I can almost see last week 😩

I’m about to that point too.

Haha, yes… Plus, there are the warring factions among my friends.
I’ve got very conservative in laws and religious friends and seniors and partying college buddies and extreme liberals posting about politics… Someone tells a dirty joke and I’m wondering how my great aunt is going to take it, lol

Oh my goodness yes. Remember when we didn’t have to know everyone’s political views? We could just see them at what ever social encounter in real life and it wouldn’t need to come up?

Great post btw 🙂 . I must say I have never been a fan of facebook, and only recently joined as I had no option if I wanted to have my blog on facebook! (which everyone said I must) I still am bad with my blog page, never go to it …. and the personal one, is kept to the minimum, I never post and only comment, and then it is to my sister-in-law overseas, I just love seeing all their pic’s and how my nieces and nephew are growing 🙂

Thank you!
Yes I’ve gotten bad with keeping up up with Facebook too especially since starting my blog.
You are right though, I loved it when my brother was overseas or lived away. I still got to know what was going on with him, probably more so than a telephone conversation. So that part is nice.

Interesting…I happen to like them actually. Even made a segment for it on the blog. It helps because since we reopened, our post from 2&3 years ago are stored away. So this feature allows for a logical way to improve and reintroduce older posts

Omg this is SPOT ON! My friend and I were just talking about this! I hate the 6-7 year old ones that say “Good things happening”. Like what?!? It does make me laugh though! So mysterious we all were! Haha

Haha yes! We’re we all bored or did we evolve? What in the world was that about. Glad to know I’m not the only one .

Here’s how I handle Facebook. I don’t go there mostly. And when I do, I take the scroll bar by the hand and swing it down quickly, slowing only on photos that catch my eye. I ignore most of the other. Sounds horrible for a blogger, doesn’t it? I moved from Facebook to a Blog format so that things could be more focused. Subscribe to what you want to read instead of a bloated, ad infused, newsfeed. Plus, the perfect life facades are a little hard to tolerate. So, I’ve never even heard of those two apps, fortunately. And I know what you mean about prior titles. I even went as far as cleansing my facebook posts (fortunately, I wasn’t prolific) and have even deleted several of my early blog posts, even though I’ve only been blogging since April.

I know it sounds bad for a blogger to skim through social media, but I do that too. There’s just TOO MUCH happening on there. Also, I have started to value spending my time doing other things, like reading interesting blogs instead of the facebook perfect life facades.
