When I first started blogging 8 short months ago I was able to read and write blogs on my lunch break. I try not to at home so I can give my family my focus. The last three weeks have been just too busy to do that. I know everyone is busy. I for sure don’t want to sound self important. But I was scheduling posts I had written earlier without having time to read other blogs when I was publishing. I just didn’t think it was fair to be putting posts out when I couldn’t be reading others. I realize I am probably putting too much thought into this, but it did get me wondering about blog reading time management.
I posted A Question for My Fellow Bloggers a week ago asking how you manage keeping up with reading the blogs you follow. There was a ton of really great feedback. I want to thank everyone that took the time to share their thoughts and strategies. Also, if this is something you have ever struggled with, I encourage you to scroll through the comments for ideas. I think it was just nice to know other people have felt this way too and aren’t offended by it. Plus I was reminded that this blog is supposed to be FUN and not a source of stress. Really I just want to be respectful to my blogger friends.
I am probably late to the game with this, but I have since created a few lists on my reader to help organize some of the blogs I follow. In case you, like me, did not realize how this feature works, here you go. You can name and create lists within your reader to only view certain blogs when that list is selected: food blogs, favorite blogs, garden blogs, read daily blogs etc. . .
To create a list navigate to your reader, next to “List” select “Add”, and name your list. Within your list you can add a description and the URL for each blog you want to view within the list. My friend, Wãshē Kōdä, did have some good tips about utilizing lists though. Lists can be renamed but not deleted. If you think you are being super organized by creating 30 lists, down the road you may only end up using 3 or 4 and then end up with several hanging out that you can’t get rid of. So start small.
I don’t know that I’ll get completely caught up from being three weeks behind, but I’m feeling good about moving forward.
I’ve never done this before…I will try it out! Thank you for sharing! 🙂

This is a great idea! I also struggle to manage all the blogs… I try to get to them but it’s a lot of email and data, so I’m sure they slip past me too.

The reader overwhelms me and I lose me place so easy. At least maybe this way can help sort and prioritize some.

Helpful. Like I said, I have trouble getting to them all. I don’t have any one designated chunk of time to read them, so I do it in bits and pieces and it makes my head spin!

Me too lady me too. I’m hoping this help me manage it better. At least initially it makes the reader less overwhelming to me.

I also tell myself I don’t have to be perfect and that I’m sure all my followers don’t see all my posts, and that’s okay! I totally understand

Yup, I’ve been the same, so busy that last month or so. In fact I just did an apology post! Thanks for the info on creating lists to organize blogs.

Great idea, I’ve been feeling so overwhelmed these past few weeks and really falling behind in my reading. Blogging isn’t meant to be stressful so organising my reading lists will be a huge help, thanks heaps! Now I just have to do it! 🙂

oh dear, I am a serious list maker so I think I’d best do some planning before making these. It took me a while to get my FB friends lists right. 😀
