Some random things I think but don’t say.

  • Not about anybody in particular and not all the time, but sometimes I’m a lousy listener. I mean lousy.
  • I know kids need to get to school, but I cannot stand getting stuck behind a school bus.
  • Social media is a neat platform to keep in touch and exchange ideas, but I’m tired of reading about everyone’s political opinions. I mean I still want to like people.
  • I’ll buy anything a kid is selling for school if the kid asks me and not the parent.
  • I am discovering I am extremely awkward around other parents in parent situations. The more I tell myself to not be awkward the more awkward I become.
  • I’m not an Oprah fan. I thought this wouldn’t be as big of a deal now that her talk show is off, not any that are now on her network. Then I commented on a random Facebook shared article about her and received the wrath of many of her faithful fans. Even though I don’t exactly remember the comment, it couldn’t have been too bad. I’m not into trolling. I know she’s kind of beloved or whatever, but that whole thing with David Letterman showed she can’t laugh at herself. I respect people more when they can laugh at themselves. Plus, to me, she comes across as a know it all. And actually I did say this during one of my book club meet ups recently. It’s a tad ironic since Oprah had a book club too, but ours is better. We laugh at ourselves all the time.
  • I’m not into gender reveal or engagement parties. I know both are popular and to each their own, of course. I see them as the pre pre party parties. For both these occasions there will be other festivities prior to celebrating the main event, like shower(s) and bachelor/bachelorette party. I’m unsure of the etiquette. Do you bring gifts? Also both times we found out the genders of our babies it was more emotional than I expected. I’m glad it was a private moment between my husband and myself.
  • I want to like pomegranate and kale because they are super foods, but I don’t.

      1. Full disclosure: kale is not my fav either. We get it in our CSA farm share, and I have found baking it is an easy way to use a lot. My boys will eat these–they really just taste like whatever you put on them. Dinosaur kale works better–just cut into large pieces, toss in olive oil, season with salt etc, bake at 350 for 10-15 min til crispy. I do like kale in minestrone

      2. Thank you 🙂 That sounds easy enough to try. You know, I forgot about trying it in soup. I bet that would take the toughness out of it. That’s a really great idea.

      4. Good to know. I haven’t experimented with it, but we have used collard greens in soups. I imagine they can’t be that different? Thanks for all the good info. With cool weather moving in I see myself experimenting with soups and greens this weekend 🙂

  3. Haha, these are funny and I agree with most of them. I do love pomegranates though.

    But kale… I think I bought kale chips several times then let them expire in my cupboards until I finally decided to stop lying to myself.

  7. I am definitely with you on the gender reveal parties. Of course, I am an extreme traditionalist in that I never wanted to know the gender until my children were born, much to my mother-in-law’s great disappointment, because she was unable to buy the “right” clothes. But I’ve always loved secrets and these were the most precious secrets of all (and had little chance of getting ruined by someone letting it slip!). (I’m also with you on most of the rest, although with me, I’m awkward in nearly EVERY social situation – it’s sadly not limited to just other parents… )

    1. Cheri, your will power is impressive! There’s no way I would be able to wait till birth to know, even though that would be fun.
      Well yeah I think I am becoming just more awkward in general, but I really notice it around new parents :/

  8. Hey Lacey– I’m with you on the overload of political stuff on Facebook! I like reading political articles and watching Meet the Press etc., but so many people put up stuff that is just mean spirited and wacky! —and I learned to like kale since my husband is a fan– I just have to chop chop chop it fine before I make it into a salad and it’s more edible! Junto get you opinions!! Your blog is awesome Lacey! hugs!

    1. Yes! Exactly. And for me the more an opinion is forced on me the less I listen.

      For me the texture of kale is so heavy. I don’t think I’ve tried it chopped, but that just may help. Thanks for the idea, and for the compliment 🙂
