Are you looking forward to the holidays?

I find there’s usually two groups of people this time of year, the holiday enthusiasts and the rest of us. I try not to be a drag about the holidays, but they just really wear me out. Plus, if you’ve read any of my last few posts you’ll know I’ve been whining about not feeling well lately. So I’m already extra concerned about that.

But then Halloween happened. It was almost disastrous. My family was over for dinner and trick or treating. My kids, ages 2 and 4,  were being about the worst they have ever been while I was feeling about as run down as I ever have. It was the making for a memorably terrible time.

When we got started a complete turn around happened though. My kids and nieces and nephews were all really into it. We did have to have a few reminders for listening and going back to say thank you, but overall it was genuinely fun. The bigger kids were great at helping the little kids. After the first house the little kids picked up the trick or treating concept exactly like they were born to do it.

When we got home we let them dig into their candy for a bit but told them we would have to put it up to start to get ready for bed soon. When it was time my husband and I were prepared for complete meltdowns, but the meltdowns never came. So I am cautiously optimistic about the holiday season this year. Is it possible we are entering some sweet spot time and age with our kids were the holidays are going to be magical and fun? Like once the holiday festivities start they will be able to understand and participate and maybe have fun without losing their minds? Did I just jinx us?!?!

What about you? Are you looking forward to the holidays this year?

  1. Great pictures! You all look cute! 🙂 I definitely look forward to the holidays! People are usually nicer than normal plus we wouldn’t love gifts??? hehehe.
Seriously though, it’s the fun time with family and love ones that I look forward too…it makes me happy to see everyone’s smiling faces! 🙂

      1. I could relate to the “too busy to enjoy”…sometimes we want everything to be perfect and in so doing, we fail to enjoy the moment…this time, maybe it’ll help if we just ride with the flow 😉😊

  2. I love the holidays, but in Canada, ours are most spread out! You guys have to deal with Nov/Dec while we get a nice 2 1/2 month break. Christmas is busy, yeah, but I always look forward to it. I was a little more exhausted when my kids were little, like yours. And I try to do too much (home-baking trays for 30+ people, plus blog, contesting, full-time job, 2 kids etc..) So this year : I AM NOT DOING IT!

    1. Aw 2 1/2 months in between would be sooo nice.
But Christmas gets a little less exhausting when they are a little older?
And WOW, yes just reading about your Christmas to do list made me tired. Good for you for not doing it! Not that I want to push anything off on to someone else. I just want to enjoy it more.

  3. Awww Lacey, what great photos! Sounds like you had a wonderful time … and have a positive attitude toward the upcoming holidays. Your family is adorable.

I love, love, love the holidays …. for me, it’s a time of fellowship, of counting my blessings, and of family. Including you!
    Blessings,
    Debbie
