Here’s what I had to do to finally lose my baby weight after two years.

I am not sharing this to brag or bait compliments. I wanted to be truthful about the struggle I have had with losing weight since giving birth to my second kiddo over 2 years ago just in case it may be helpful to someone else. Plus since the holidays are right around the corner I thought this may be a good way to keep me in check and not go overboard. I realize my before picture is a weird choice, but I didn’t have very many that show more than my face from this time period. I was a salt shaker last Halloween in case you are wondering.

Becoming a mom has actually made me more comfortable with my body. After I had my daughter I was breastfeeding and not in a rush to get rid of my baby weight because I didn’t want to mess with my milk supply at all. But when we were finished I tried and tried hard to slim back down, partly out of vanity, partly for my health, but mostly to not have to buy all new clothes in a larger size.

I joined Weight Watchers, and my husband and I did insanity workouts every week night. After two months of being diligent and not seeing any change my best friend generously cleaned out her closet and gave me a ton of clothes to wear while I tried to get back into my wardrobe.

A frustrating cycle started where I would get determined, workout out consistently, and eat really well for a few months without seeing any change. So then I’d fall off the wagon. No matter what I did or didn’t do there was about a six pound range I stayed within, a platue I couldn’t get passed.

After my sisters and mom had a good experience with a health group that focuses on womens health I made an appointment for my migraine and weight issues. The month leading up to the appointment I downloaded the loseit app, diligently tracked everything I ate, made sure my calories were under everyday, and worked out at least 4 times a week. I didn’t want to be told I was not trying hard enough. The doctor listened and ran labs. She discovered my thyroid was fine, but I was deficient in a few things. We created a plan to tackle my migraines and weight.

That was three months ago. I go for my second follow up appointment tomorrow. I hope my labs show my levels are better. My migraines have either been totally non existent or everyday for two weeks. We are still working on that, but I’ve started to feel better in he last week or two.

I logged onto loseit today to enter my weight for the week and got a badge notification that I was now two pounds under my original goal weight. I’ve lost 17 pounds in three months (or two years depending on how you look at it I guess.)

So if you are struggling to take weight off even if you doing everything right, I’d suggest visiting with your doctor. And if they brush you off find one that will at least listen and try to work with you. Good luck!

      1. And thank you for sharing what works for you. It’s an inspiration and a really good motivation when you know that it’s not all words- and that it CAN happen to simple normal people like us! 🙂

    1. I hear that, but my vice is carby, salty goodness. We are amazon prime memebers. So the only thing that has helped me with the exercise part has been downloading the prime video app to my phone and doing 30 min workouts from there. 1) because my kids will lose their minds if it’s longer than 30 min 2) I can do it anywhere in the house from my phone without taking over the TV or computer that will keep my kids occupied for that 30 min.

  1. Wow Lacey, you look fantastic. Your body is Great. You should be really proud, well done. Lovely to hear you have minimal migranes if any, and that really does not help matters. I am so proud of you. I am sure your follow up appointment will go well. x

  2. Aww Lacey good on you! I’m so proud of you. It takes courage to go to the doctor, or any health practitioner and take good care. Yay! 🙂

Have a wonderful rest of your week, and thanks so much for sharing and your caring.
    Blessings
    Debbie

  3. I definitely will be keeping this in mind when I start having children. Thanks for sharing with us, Lacey. It’s inspirational- but also so informative. As a nurse I am a big advocate of seeing the doctor when something just isn’t quite right. I love that he was able to point out what it was you were exactly deficient in so that you could tackle that. I hope the migraines go away entirely soon! ❤

  4. I am convinced that no matter what diet plan you do, it will not work unless you are active…burn off those calories. I watch what I eat but have a hard time losing. Got myself a fitbit and just stepped up my steps (not doing 10,000 yet but getting there) and so far down 22 lbs.

  5. It’s so weird how different people react to hormones. I put tons of weight on with both pregnancies, but it fell off like crazy, both times, when I breastfed my girls. I even got too skinny for a while there.

I know not everyone has that experience. Some have a harder time when breastfeeding. For me, after breastfeeding quit, I’ve had a hard time keeping the weight from creeping back on. I’d love to get more testing.

  6. This is an awesome post Lacey!! I am kind of where you were– except it’s menopause weight instead of baby weight! I try recording calories on the “My Fitness Pal” ap– but have a hard time sticking with it. You are definitely encouraging me to get going again!

      1. thanks Lacey– you’re an encourager. I’m not doing well, staying with our kids this week– with our stop for afternoon pastries and tea. But I’ll get back at it at home! Thanksgiving hugs! I’m thankful for you…
