When your plate is full

I have gotten to do some pretty cool stuff lately but haven’t been able to sit down to write about any of it. You know this isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned and\or complained about time management.  Sometimes it is just easier than others to squeeze everything I want and need to in.

Last week I was starting to feel overwhelmed with everything going on in our lives, which truthfully probably isn’t anymore than what’s going on in anyone elses life. Feeling like I needed to hit a reset button and decompress though, I took a personal day to spend some unplugged time with the family. I needed to set aside the never ending to do list and mom worries.

During our free day we learned pizza and gelato is the perfect dining out meal with a 2 and 4 year old. We chased my son all over the Oklahoma Railway Museum. We danced with my daughter. We enjoyed each other.

The next week I had a stomach bug, the kids had a virus, work kicked my tail. It was a long week and that overwhelmed feeling was starting to rise inside me again. I guess that’s just part of this season of life I’m in at the moment, and I certainly can’t take a personal day every time I feel that way. But it was nice to take one that day.

So friends, tell me. How do you handle and cope with daily stress when your plate is full? Teach me your ways!

  1. Sounds like you had a good de-stressing day! I do NOT handle stress well—I just kind of go into a hole and binge Netflix when I get stressed out to try and decompress. Maybe next time I’ll get some gelato…

  2. Oh no, I’m glad you’re feeling better!

I can relate to the time management stress. Sometimes I’m torn between trying to get everything clean & chores done and spending fun quality time with my kids… I think you can’t do everything all the time and we’re all human, trying to balance it out.

Glad you went cool places with your kids, though! We all need to cut ourselves a break 🙂

  3. Coffee, chocolate, and a supportive spouse. You say to yourself, “This too shall pass.” 2 little ones and working 2 jobs was the hardest stage for me. Now, I’m working from home with my 5th, and it’s more chill.

  4. I think you said it yourself Lacey– there are times in your life when life is just too busy– but they come and go. And taking a day for just you and family is awesome. I hope that you get a little time alone for just yourself as well! When our kids were little and we lived in Spain. Every Thursday afternoon, Larry would stay home with all the kids and I would take the bus into Seville and window shop and get something to drink and sit and read. Loved the time alone–refreshing and needed! You’re such a great wife/mom. And you’re in such a busy time– hope you find rest in it all!! hugs hugs!

    1. Oh Rhonda, window shopping and reading in Seville?! That sounds like such a dream! Are you and your family fluent in Spanish?
Thanks, yes sometimes there’s no balance and other times there can be. I hope rest this weekend!

      1. Hi Lacey–well, here’s to a restful weekend! We do speak Spanish–but my kids have a cleaner accent than I do because they went to Spanish public school and we immersed 6 hours every day. It comes in handy back in California– I taught here in a Title 1 school where most of the parents only spoke Spanish. It’s Friday!! Happy weekend dear girl!!
