Week in Review

Week in Review 4/28/17

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series, Week in Review, posted every Friday. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

McDonalds. Yes you read that right. McDonalds more than got my attention this week. Even though I think they have yummy coffee and breakfast, it has been a minute since I’ve eaten at one. I got invited by way of the Oklahoma City Moms Blog to come tour their kitchen and try their hand-stirred cherry limeades (paired with a pico guacamole grilled chicken sandwich) for their #summeriscoming campaign. Guys, it was a perfect limeade. Seriously.

Also, a few bonus bits of information, right now they have Super Mario toys in their kids meals. Surely I’m not the only one with kids obsessed with Mario??? And one of the managers let me know know that mornings are the best time to bring your younger ones in to play if you are looking for a more laid back experience. Most people are going through the drive through then, and there’s a good chance you’ll have the place almost to yourself.

2) What blog should you check out?

The Fiance Patriot. The Finance Patriot is a 40 year old CPA well on his way to an early retirement. Which isn’t that everyone’s life dream? It is his actual life goal though, and he makes it seem more attainable for the rest of us. He is very open about his financial history, strategies, and smart ways to save. The post I specifically took a lot away from was how he planned and budgeted for their family’s dream vacation.

3) What’s been going on this week?

Reading and cooking. My summer reading list is full thanks to some friends offering solid recommendations. First up is A.D. 30. I’ve had a hard time putting it down. Also, I’ve made some tasty food that I didn’t get pictures of. So I won’t be writing posts about them, but I am still dreaming of the shredded beef tacos and apple fritters from earlier this week. . . .

4) What’s going on this weekend?

Norman Music Festival. We will get to cross one thing off from My Family’s Non-Bucket List Spring/Summer Bucket List this weekend. The kiddos and I are meeting up with a group of friends and family to hang out and listen to some good music. I wouldn’t mind a repeat of the impromptu dance party all the kids had on Main Street last year.

5) Did you miss this post?

  1. Hey Lacey, thanks so much for the plug. I really appreciate it. Our trip to Puerto Rico starts May 14th and we can’t wait.

I really like all your food postings, although they usually make me hungry. Have a great weekend.

      1. The best card I’ve found is actually the Costco one. It has great rewards! (We don’t have it cause we have an Amazon one right now since we are Amazon junkies). Costco’s was actually ranked #1

      1. Aww Lacey, I’m sorry about that! ❤ I hope you are feeling better. I went back to that peace ranch. Just got back a little while ago and had a yummy dinner by the water. Life is good. Have a beautiful week, my friend. xo Blessings to you and your family, Debbie

  3. Hey Lacey– A city wide garage sale!!! wish I were closer to get in on that! And– day dreaming tacos– perfect. We eat tacos here at least once a week and one year Larry got me a birthday card that said “I love you more than tacos”! Plus also the 30 A.D. book looks intriguing– I’ll have to track it down… sounds like a good weekend! How was the music festival??? Did the kids get into it?? Happy week ahead friend… xo

    1. Aw I love you more than tacos? High praise!
I ended up sick and missed doing a single thing this weekend 😦 but I got lots of rest and snuggles.
30 AD was REALLY good. After I finish the Handmaid’s Tale I’m going to read it’s sequel 33 AD.

      1. Hey Lacey– so sorry about your down weekend– sounds like you did get some reading done, at least. We had a quiet weekend– lunch with friends, church and lots of time in quilting. xox

  4. I enjoyed this post, warm natural writing, do your feet really touch the ground long enough to blog with two youngsters? Garage sales, they a big event in your city? In my city some people seem possessed by them, arriving at the Crack of dawn to buy deals.

    1. Some weeks I am able to blog not at all and others a few times a week, but yes the kids keep me sooo busy 🙂
I know! people can be nuts about garage sales. I love to browse them but am for sure not an early bird shopper.
      Thanks for reading!

  5. Your family is so darling! 🙂

Funny, I used to rarely eat at McDonalds but it’s such a low-key place to bring your kids. They can go play, wear themselves out, and it doesn’t matter if they’re loud or running everywhere. Plus, they go crazy for those toys.

I’m surprised more restaurants haven’t added play structures. It would bring in families like crazy. I bet someone could corner a niche on health-conscious moms by opening a restaurant with reasonably healthy food that included a play structure… maybe someone tried that and it flopped. But you’d think there’d be a ton of crunchy moms all over it.

    1. Yes! I just took the kids last night. The play area has its
Shitntogether. It is big and cleAn. The big toy was good for big kids and
Little kids. Totally kicks chic fil a and burgers king butts as far as that goes.
      Your idea is brilliant. Truly.

      1. Haha, true! We’ve been all of those places, but the kids definitely like McDonalds the best.

Thanks–I’m surprised no one has reasonably healthy food for kids with a playground because a lot of parents don’t want to feed their kids fast food, or at least not all the time. I’m not against the occasional cheeseburger myself, but it would be nice to have an option with stuff like turkey hot dogs or mac & cheese made with real ingredients, like Annie’s stuff. You’d think we’d be all over that in California… I know a TON of crunchy moms around here.
