Week in Review

Week in Review 6/16/17

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series, Week in Review, posted every Friday. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies. Click to check out my delicious review and how they temporarily made me loose my ability to think clearly.

2) What blog should you check out?

WIL WHEATON dot NET. Stand By Me is the movie of my life. It is the single movie that has had the biggest impact on me. I watched and re-watched that movie so often as kid that to this day I can recite every piece of dialog and sing every song from the soundtrack. The young Gordie was played by Wheaton.

It was the first movie I remember watching that dealt with adult themes. My first crush was in the movie, River Phoenix. I remember feeling so sad at the end when Richard Dreyfuss’s narration concluded the story with boys growing up and apart, but then I was immediately so happy when grown Gordie had boys of his own.  It was responsible for so many first time felt emotions. I have always and will always have a special place in my heart for Stand By Me.

Then if we fast forward a few more years into my childhood we’ll find that my brother and I loved Star Trek the Next Generation where Wheaton played Wesley Crusher. Fast forward a bit more and we’ll find I married a gaming, fantasy loving husband who tried to get me into watching Dungeons and Dragons online. I wasn’t into it, but low and behold one of the players was Wil Wheaton himself!

Then I had a few kids and started some form of this mom blog you are reading now. As a blogger I happened to stumble upon Wil Wheaton’s blog, the guy who had a pretty big pop culture impact on my childhood.

He posts writing excerpts and information on projects he is working on along with occasional stuff about what is going on in his personal life. It is pretty darn cool to get a glimpse at someone who’s work I’ve always respected, in 100% non-creepy way of course.

3) What’s been going on this week?

Potty Training. You guys, my daughter is almost 3 and has had zero interest in potty training. ZERO. Anytime it’s mentioned she insists that she is still a baby, a baby that can bring you a diaper, lay down, unstrap her diaper, and throw it away in the trash. Yeah she pretty much changes her own diapers but refuses to potty train. We have tried to bring it up from time to time but haven’t pushed it too hard.

That is until my mother in law came to visit with a little potty chair and told my daughter to pee in it. My daughter said, “Grammy says “twinkle” in the potty,” and she sat down and peed in the damn thing. Hallelujah! And it’s not just a fluke. It’s happened several times, and each time my daughter sits and says, “Grammy says “twinkle” in the potty.”

Also, I stopped participating in blog awards awhile back because I was so terrible at posting them in a timely manner. I want to give a shout out to Stephanie’s Novel Fiction and Shay-lon at Staying healthy isnt a crime-Fitness is a lifestyle choice though for nominating me. I am very appreciative, and would like to encourage everyone to check their blogs out.

4) What’s going on this weekend?

Alot. My water bug babies and I are going with friends to an event at Pelican Bay. The following day we are meeting another set of friends in the Tulsa area to check out a mega splash pad and visit one of my favorite pizza places I used to frequent when I lived there a hundred years ago.

What about Father’s Day you ask? Well my main gift to my husband will be getting the kids out of the house so he can have some quiet time. Well that and bacon jerky from Trader Joe’s.

5) Did you miss this post?

3 Job Search Tips for Moms Returning to the Workforce.  Job searching in and of itself can be a time consuming and extensive process. Add a recent employment gap to that and it can be nothing short of daunting. Here’s 3 tips to help.

Thanks for reading, and Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there!

How was your week? Tell me, what are you up to this weekend?

  1. 1. Those pies look amazing. 2. Stand By Me is such an awesome movie!! I read the book Stephen King book that it is based on before I ever watched the movie — I think I was in like 8th grade? Omg the book is amazing. If you’ve never read it, then you’ll probably love it! It is called The Body (not Stand By Me lol). Also, thanks for visiting my blog today — I appreciate it :))

    1. Yes! The pies were sooooo gooood.
I haven’t read the book. I have a weird hang up about it because the movie is so big to me. It’s weird too because I’m a pretty avid reader. I think it’s passed time I crack it open though.

Thanks for popping over and reading my randomness!
