Week in Review

Week in Review 10/6/17

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series, Week in Review, posted every Friday. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

P Bar Farms. My best friend (who happens to blog at Real Life Autism and took some of these pics) and I loaded up our kids and headed an hour west outside of Oklahoma City to visit P Bar Farms. Everything on our fall to-do list got checked off in one stop. I’d suggest following them on social media. The place has a lot more than their website does justice.

There were a few concerns I had ahead of time. One was I wondered if there would be enough to do to make the hour drive there and back worth the visit. The answer is YES, a thousand times yes. There was a hayride, picking pumpkins from the patch, a jump pad, outdoor toys, different play areas, a corn maze, petting zoo and more.

If we had made it out earlier we could have done everything, had lunch, and done it all again. Instead we did everything, had lunch, and loaded up the kids to head back because it was nap time. It still worked out great though. For food we packed a picnic, but they do have a snack bar there.

My second concern was that since my son has sensory issues, going to new places can be a challenge. If it’s too busy he can get overwhelmed, and I worry about him wandering off. This was perfect though. Everything was so spread out that it never felt crowded, but I could still keep an eye on him.

When we were sitting down to our picnic my friend’s son said, “This is a good day.” The other kids answered that their favorite parts of the visit were following chickens around and playing in the silo full of corn kernels. Out of the mouths of babe, man.

2) What blog should you check out?

The Thankful Heart. I’ve probably linked The Thankful Heart more than anything else on BigAndPinkyToes. The woman behind the blog, Rhonda, was one of my first blogging friends when I started this venture coming up on 2 years ago. She has gorgeous and delicious recipes, is always on an adventure, and has the very best book recommendations.  This blog is 100% worth your time.

3) What’s been going on this week?

Fighting. My son was sick last week. This week the rest of the house has been fighting some combo of cold/allergy/sinus/viral/pretty-much-just-over-all-crud. The doctor said we aren’t contagious. We feel just bad enough to make us icky and tired.

Also everything in the world seems heavy right now. Sometimes I have to disconnect from the news because the effects of it can weigh too much on me. That was this week. It’s hard when there aren’t answers and so many people are hurting so much. It makes me hug my family a bit tighter and try to be a bit kinder to everyone else. I don’t know what else to do.

4) What’s going on this weekend?

A visit to the grandparents’ farm. Besides a lot of rest we are going to my dad and step-mom’s. They have invited us out for one last big farm adventure before it gets too cold to let my kids run around their land like crazy people. We will be eating some big, home cooked meal and feeding farm animals. We always have a good time when we go. Can’t wait.

5) Did you miss this post?

Don’t Wake Cat! About a game my 5 year old invented. Guys, he’s brilliant I tell ya. Brilliant.

Thanks for reading. How was your week? Tell me, what are you up to this weekend?

  1. Hey Lacey– First up–loved the P Bar Farms pictures! Glad it turned out to be such a fun full day!– Those sunflowers remind me of the sunflower fields all around the pueblo when we lived in Spain. Beautiful. so kind of you to mention the Thankful Heart. And–sos- are you ever going to get past the yukky allergy thing?? So sorry. I know it can make you feel miserable. So– have fun at the farm!! What a perfect grandparent place to live– the kids must love it!! Sounds like you get well taken care of there– just what a mom needs. We have kids coming in for the weekend (picking up Laurel in a couple hours at the airport!)– for a newlyweds party for John and Laurel so all the people who couldn’t make it back to the wedding can give them a hug and best wishes! My kitchen is piled (really piled!) with party supplies. Should be crazy fun! Love you Friday Updates– always something new! xox

    1. I’m still fighting these stupid allergies. Not to be dramatic, but I think they may be out to kill me.
And of course! I LOVE your blog. even for neat tid bits like how the sunflowers remind you of your time in Spain. So cool!

Oh another party! I can’t wait to hear about the food and/or see the pictures. I know you’ll have the best time.

      1. I know, 3 weeks! Nothing has seemed to help so far but I’m working on finding something. I rested this weekend and am feeling better so far.
