Week in Review

Week in Review 3/2/18

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series, Week in Review, posted every Friday. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

Plum Print. I never win anything. So I was completely surprised when Military Moms Blog notified me that I won their Facebook giveaway for a Plum Print book. I hadn’t heard of the company before the giveaway but am excited to try it out. Plum Print sent me a big box to collect my kids’ artwork in. I’m going to send it back, and they are going to create a custom coffee table book out of all their masterpieces. It sounds like something that would make a perfect Mother’s Day or Father’s Day present or even gift for the grandparents (while reducing clutter without trashing our kids’ hard work). I’m in the “collecting all the pieces” phase, but I’ll let you know how the book comes together.

2) What blog post should you check out?

Garden Fresh Crunchy Marrow/Zucchini/Courgette Salad. This beautiful dish is on Lynne’s Recipe Trails, one of my favorite food blogs. Healthy eating and fresh ingredients are priority in all of her dishes, which makes her blog (and Instagram page) colorful and fun to follow. This recipe is no different. This salad would be perfect as a side or a light spring dinner or lunch. Bon appetit.

**I had a Meet and Greet recently where I asked bloggers to share their favorite posts from 2017. I’m going to a highlight a post a week from the links left. If you would like to leave a link and have a piece highlighted on a Week in Review post, click here and leave it in the comments.**

3) What’s been going on this week?

Book Club. I got out of the house for the first time (besides work) in about a month. I met two of my favorite gals at one of my favorite coffee shops to talk about Sing, Unbuired, Sing by Jesmyn Ward. Have you read it? Look for the book review post coming soon! It was a good, recharging kind of time.

4) What’s going on this weekend?

Youth of the Year. Growing up the Boys and Girls Club was a HUGE part of my life. The whole story on that is probably an entire post in and of itself that I’ll save for another day. But “The Club” helped shape me as a person and provided me many opportunities. I was even the Boys and Girls Club State Youth of the Year in 2001. One of my friends is the Executive Director of a division of Boys and Girls Club, and she has asked me to be one of the judges for their Youth of the Year competition this weekend. Talk about full circle. I’m beyond honored and excited.

5) Did you miss this post?

6) What did my kids create?

Everything Cat in the Hat. It’s Read Across America week, and my son’s been doing a ton of Dr. Seuss stuff at school. We even went to the school’s family reading night where we given several simple take home games. Kind of like how I can’t just follow a recipe, my son just can’t follow game rules. He has to re-write them all. So now we have several little games he’s been working on revamping. I see it continuing through the weekend.

Whoa guys, I did more this week than I have done in the past 2 months combined. I’m not going to lie. I’m pretty tired.  How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?

    1. Thanks, I really am excited about it. They are giving a book of up to 50 art pieces. I’m at 30. So it may be a while before I collect enough to send in to have the book made. Right before I won I had gone through and gotten rid of a lot of stuff my kids had made. Now of course I regret it!

    1. I really like it too but also have mixed feeling about parts. I thought it was beautifully written though and fell in love with the relationship with Jojo and his grandpa.
Yes! I’m super duper excited to try Plum Print. If the quality is good, it’s a great idea.
I’ll be resting all weekend long 🙂 How’s your weekend looking?

  2. The Plum print book sounds cool. Can you send in photographs? I think it would be cool to combine actual photos of the kids doing the art work with the art work. Then you have them. Just a thought. How cool is that you can help out an organization that helped you. Giving back is so important. Hope you have a great weekend and week ahead.

    1. It doesn’t say (about Plum Print and photos), but I think they can work with whatever you send in. And that does sound neat.

It really is cool. I was so honored.

I rested a bunch this weekend. Did yours turn out okay?

    1. Yes I’m so excited to see how the Plum Print book turns out. Such a neat idea.
Oh yeah I could have told more about the Youth of the Year process! It a competition at a local, state, regional and national level. The process now seems the same as it was when I did it. The youths write 5 different essays on different aspects about themselves and go through an interview process and give a speech. It was nerve wracking when I did it, but being a judge was so hard too!
