Week in Review

Week in Review 4/13/18

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series, Week in Review, posted every Friday. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

The Oklahoma Teacher Walkout continued and ended?

Some districts, ours included, curiously decided to resume classes on Thursday without consulting teachers after legislatures tried to enter a bill that would cap superintendent salaries and consolidate districts. Many teachers called in and marched to the Oklahoma State Capital instead. Many parents kept their kids at home in a show of support for the walkout.

Later Thursday afternoon though the Oklahoma Education Association, the state’s largest teacher union, announced an end to the walkout. While some educator requests were met, many demands fell short. Some districts may still support the walkout though, and there’s a grassroots effort for parents to continue the advocacy the teachers have started.

I hope everyone remembers this come November.

2) What blog post should you check out?

The title of Nikki’s blog, A Kinder Way, says it all. She is an animal loving wife, mom, and dog mom who encourages thinking and being kinder. Plus she hosts the best meet and greets. Honestly, between the meet and greets and her posts, you are missing out if you don’t follow her blog.

Specifically today I’d like to highlight her post, Own Your Story. It just so happens to include a great Game of Thrones reference too!  The piece reminds me of when I started blogging and was SO nervous to press the publish button. The message is just as important to non-bloggers too though. Check it out.

**I had a Meet and Greet recently where I asked bloggers to share their favorite posts from 2017. I’m going to a highlight a post a week from the links left. If you would like to leave a link and have a piece highlighted on a Week in Review post, click here to leave it in the comments.**

3) What’s been going on this week?

Everything broke. We were juuuust about to get ahead a little bit. Then, in one week the dryer, garbage disposal, couch, and maybe lawnmower went kaputz. I guess we’ll tackle one thing at a time.

4) What’s going on this weekend?

A cousin’s tea party. Adagio Teas has some really cute teas in tins perfect to host a tea party or for accompanying a story time. I ordered some, and my sister and mom and I are going to get our kids together for a cousins tea party this weekend. Don’t worry, you know I’ll be posting the cute pictures later.

5) Did you miss this post?

4 Reasons Why I Won’t Have a Gender Reveal Party.

Have you had one? Why or why not?

6) What did my kids create?

A birthday party. Remember Monster from last week? Well apparently his birthday was yesterday. Yes. We had a birthday party for my kids’ alter ego stuffed animal. He turned 16.

Thanks for reading. How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?

    1. We are Moore. We’ve kept my son home today and yesterday. Partly because we heard there would be so many subs, and they were combing classes to make sure all of them were covered. We will probabaly send him back Monday though if everything seems calmed down.

  1. I’m sorry that so many things in your life decided to break all at once. Been there, survived that. But it does make one wonder about cosmic shenanigans. I like those little boxes of tea. Very cute.

  2. Well Murphy and his damn laws decided to show up at your house in spades this week. I hope next week is much smoother for you. Those boxes of tea are perfect for a little ones tea party. and, I would keep my child home too if I felt that the majority of the teachers would not be there. Yes, its hard on the parents and no one wants this, but you can’t keep treating teachers like second class citizens and not expect them to fight back from time to time.

    1. I hope next week is better for you too. What in the world was up with this week?
Thanks, seeing how the legislatures have responded is disheartening. I REALLY hope there’s change next election cycle.

  3. Oh no !!! I generally find when one thing breaks there are two things following that break, ,that break. It is like one goes one step forward, and then three steps back. So sorry all these things happened in one week.
Let’s hope all gets back to normal soon. 🙂

      1. I had my husband on leave for the week, so it was a nice change. We didn’t do much, but was making those endless cups of coffee for him and of course, having to make sure he had something tasty to eat all the time 🙂 🙂 🙂

  4. A 16 year old monster?? That is a tough thing to live with I must say. What is a broken dryer or a broken couch when you can survive a 16 year old monster.. 🙂
Jokes apart, yes one thing at a time is the only way to fix things when they all decide to fall sick together.

  5. So many comment about the teacher situation! Hope it’s coming to a good conclusion for them… And the cousins tea party sounds like tons of fun! The grand-girls like tea parties– but not tea! Hope you have a great restful weekend Lacey! hugs hugs.
