I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series, Week in Review, posted every Friday. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down, and tell me about yours.
1) What’s gotten my attention this week?
Cafe Kacao. One of my oldest friends (She’s not old. We’ve been friends for a long time.) was near-ish OKC recently. So she swung into town and treated me to brunch at Cafe Kacao, a small Latin cuisine restaurant on 23rd St. I didn’t get any pictures because the stupid memory on my stupid phone was full, and I was too hungry to wait. But I had some flank steak eggs Benedict with a side of fresh fruit that I am still thinking about almost a week later. If you are ever in the area this place is worth your time, even if there’s a wait.
2) What post should you check out?
I’ve been sharing a lot of posts from my friend Kristen recently. She’s just been putting out some really good content, including this post about why and how people forget their babies in the car. I know my guts wrench anytime I hear of this happening, but her article sheds some understanding on why it happens and what we can do to prevent it.
3) What’s been going on this week?
I have been trying to take the kiddos on mini summer adventures. We used our Joey Passes to get into Andy Alligator’s Water Park for our first time. I hadn’t taken the kids sooner because I had it in my head that it would be some huge place that would be hard to keep track of the kids at. It wasn’t though. It’s really a perfect family place. It’s not too big to lose people. It’s not too small to get bored. The kids liked the lazy river, which was nice and relaxing for me. This mama is a fan and so are the kids.
4) What’s going on this weekend?
Are you tired of me saying I’m going to see how I feel and play it by ear? We’ve got lots to do but extra rest sounds nice.
5) Did you miss this post?
I Tell People What Gifts to Give my Kids. Have you ever done any requests for your kids’ birthdays? Was it received well? Did people listen?
6) What did my kids create?
A wagon. I thought the garden was a bust this year and haven’t had the energy to tend to it like I need to. After a few rainy days though it was overran with cucumbers! The garden is at the back of our decent sized yard. So the kiddos loaded the cucumbers up in their dump truck to make trips back and forth to the door with our bountiful harvest.
Thanks for reading. How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?
– Lacey
Transporting the cucumbers in the truck is efficient and cute. Smart kids.
My week has been busy, but I’ll be darned if I could tell you exactly what I did. It’s Friday and this has taken me by surprise. So much for living in the moment…

Ally, I totally get those kind of weeks. It feels like you’ve ran in place, tried to get stuff done but maybe didn’t get anywhere that you can see. I hope you have a great weekend!

Popped over to Kristen’s on your recommendation. Glad I did. 🙂
Read her post on a tragic incident which occurs every summer in the country where I live. “For getting a child in a hot car.”

Thanks for checking it out, Radhika. It’s an issue she is passionate about, and for good reason. So sad.

I’ll check out that Latin place. Sounds good! I’ve never told or asked people about certain gifts. If someone asks me what they like I’ll tell them.

Yes, check it out!
That’s pretty much us too. We started giving suggestions only because so many people were asking.

I never thought to tell people what to give over the years. I have always tried to limit the number of kids invited. I make an amazon list for relatives to see. my husband and I don’t give the boys birthday gift (the party is the gift) and then for Christmas we give experiences. glad you’ve found something that works for you and your kiddos

I like the idea of the party being the gift a lot. Even if it’s an easy party, it probably costs more than a gift would anyway.

exactly. so now at my boy’s age they can pick a party or a gift. one year Blake picked a gift and we got him a go pro

Oh Lacey, I love your kids’ dump truck! They are so innovative and very smart. 🙂 That photo of them in the water park is precious too. I hope you had a fantastic weekend. I was in a spiritual workshop called “Loyalty to Your Soul” – it was beautiful. We practiced different skills like Self-forgiveness (of course) and heart-centered listening, perception checking, etc.
Have a great weekend ahead. Love you Lacey. Debbie

Thanks Debbie, I think that about them too, but I’m also their mom!
Your workshop sounds beautiful. I hope your week is the same.

I want to go to Andy Alligator’s Water Park– how could it be anything but fun with a name like that??! Sounds like it was a good fit for you all– great summer treat. And don’t you love sitting don to eat and talk with old friends?? So glad you had the chance to see her– and that amazing food! Plus, of course, loved the dump truck courier service! Hope you had a relaxing weekend with just enough fun packed in. We had kids here til this afternoon (long weekend!) because our niece was married on Saturday– so beautiful and heartfelt. So the house was full all weekend– I love when that can happen. OK, Lacey, take care. Do you start maternity leave before the baby arrives?? How much longer are you working ?? hugs hugs.

A wedding and visiting family?! Yes that sounds like a fun weekend indeed.
No maternity leave before the baby, but I’ll take 8 weeks after. Getting close . . . .

Sounds like a good week! Our kiddos have been doing swim lessons these last couple weeks, so I can be less anxious about water places like that. lol

Aw that’s good. And it’s fun for them (usually) and practical for you. Win/win.
