Week in Review

Week in Review 11/2/18

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series, Week in Review, posted every Friday. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down, and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

Smile Direct Club. I had braces as a kid, but my teeth have shifted as an adult. Braces now are around $5000. So getting my teeth fixed again keeps getting pushed to the back burner as other life things keep coming up.

My husband came across an ad for Smile Direct Club. It’s remote ortho work at half the cost. You create a mold, and they send you Invisalign style trays to wear. There are no visits to an office. This sounds amazing and maybe too good to be true. Have you tried this or know anyone who has? What has your experience with it been? I’m soooo curious.

2) What post should you check out?

10 Tips for Taking Meals to Someone Who Just Had a Baby. You guys, there were about three weeks where we didn’t have to make a single meal because our family and friends took such great care of keeping us fed after we brought the baby home. I came across this post and thought it was pretty relevant and full of some great tips.

3) What’s been going on this week?

Halloween of course. We had our annual cousins night. Weather made it hard to nail down plans ahead of time. We braved trick or treating, got caught in the rain, and made it home okay with a good haul of candy.

It’s Mario Time! The family went as Luigi, Mario, Princess Peach, Yoshi and Toadstool
Delta’s 1st Halloween

4) What’s going on this weekend?

I have no clue. I made it through my first week back at work after maternity leave. I was sick one day and worked from home another. The baby has been under the weather too. So I guess I kinda hobbled through the week. I really haven’t had time to think about this weekend. I’ve just been trying to make it. So I guess we will see what the weekend has in store.

5) Did you miss this post?

An Advent Calendar You Want To Know About Such a fun product!

6) What did my kids create?

A family of painted porch pumpkins. There’s a daddy, mommy,  brother, and two sister pumpkins . . . plus some bed hair.

Thanks for reading. How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?

  1. OK, I had braces as a child, then again as an adult. Here’s my story, in a nutshell: my small-town orthodontist straightened my teeth in such a way that when I got into my 30s I had jaw pain. I then went to an orthodontist here in the big city who specialized in doing adult orthodontia.

It was in two parts. First, I had bands & wires on my teeth like I had a a child, but it didn’t hurt as much now. This moved some of my teeth to better spots. This part lasted 2 years. Then, the bands & wires came off, and I got Invisalign from this doc. I wore those for just under a year.

The results are beautiful and I’m glad that I did this as an adult, BUT it was expensive and people [strangers] commented ad nauseum about how I was an adult with braces, how odd. I got just a tad tired of that convo. 🙄

    1. Man I hear about SO many people having to get braces again as adults. What in the heck was happening with ortho when we were kids?
I know I’ve thought about getting the old wire type because they have been quoted cheaper, even though I’m in my 30s. I bet those comments do get old though.
What did you think of the Invisalign?

      1. Invisalign were comfortable and did the trick. But in my case they were only effective because of the work beforehand preparing my teeth for them.

I, too, wonder about what orthodontists were doing back then. My guess is that any old dentist could say he or she was an orthodontist, regardless of education and training. Now, I think, you have to have more schooling to able to call yourself an orthodontist. [Maybe?]

  2. HI Lacey!! Family costumes– so great!! I can’t believe you pulled that all together with all that’s going on! And really liked the post on taking meals to people– great ideas. And– so glad to hear about all the meals that came your way when you came home from the hospital!! Sound like a rocky first week back to work. It’s got to be hard getting back into that routine with a new baby to throw into mix. Hope this week ahead will be easier! And how did your weekend end up?? I spent Saturday night cooking– because I’m taking a meal to a friend tomorrow — so your Take a Meal post was right on time! Hugs hugs Lacey!

    1. Aw I’m glad that meal post was timely. What did you take to her? I know it was delicious whatever it was.
The costumes were pretty easy. It was mostly stuff we already had. You get a ton of trick or treaters don’t you? Am I remembering that right?
The weekend was pretty good. Half running around and half resting. I am still adjusting and do hope this week is better. Trying not to feel overwhelmed and tired.

      1. Hi Lacey– You are a costume whiz!! and yep, Larry estimated about 100 tick or treaters. His folks had none– they ate a couple of the candy bars from the bag and called it a night! Sounds like you are getting your new rhythm. So tricky to settle in and care for everyone… hugs from here~!!

      2. Me too. And since I live pretty close to the school that I taught at, I always have kids come to the door who used to be in my class. That’s so much fun! I thought you’re costumes were great! xo

      3. Oh I bet that is fun still getting to see your students. Very neat.
Thank you! Lincoln picked our costumes, and I kinda just through them together with stuff we already had.

  3. Hmm, the Smile Direct Club does sound too good to be true but, how amazing if it works. Please let us know if you do decide to try it out!

Your costumes are so so so cute!! I love how you even dressed up Delta. ♡ I hope you two are feeling better now!

  4. I looked into smile direct club and read some reviews saying that people ended up with bite issues after so it made me weary to trust them. I’m actually finishing up clear aligners right now, I just went through my dentist and he had a company do them for $1500 (not sure what your budget is) but the process has been great! I also have a great dentist who I trust which I think is very important.
