Week in Review

Week in Review 12/7/2018

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series, Week in Review, posted every Friday. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down, and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

Camp Canoe by Camp Fire. This was actually about a month ago, but in my foggy mom brained state I forgot to post about it. So last month I found a Facebook event for a family day at a camp for children with autism to attend. When that day came it was perfect fall weather and the kids had the wiggles. So we went. And you know what? We all had the very best time.

They had zip lining, hiking, rock climbing, a ropes course, fishing, and probably other stuff I am forgetting. The staff was patient, knowledgeable, and friendly. While we were there we learned that Camp Fire hosts a specific day camp for children with autism and the their siblings, Camp Canoe (Children with Autism Need Outdoor Experiences). Based on the family day we will be looking into it.

Feel free to spread the word if you know of anyone who may benefit from the program.

2) What post should you check out?

Stuff that Stocking Without the Sugar. Some great ideas here! What goes in your stockings?

3) What’s been going on this week?

Work was busy again. Even though I felt wiped out in the evenings we did manage to make a trip to the library. What luck my train obsessed son has. They library was decorated in Polar Express theme!

4) What’s going on this weekend?

Will there be a snow and ice storm or not? That is the question. The answer will determine the direction of the weekend. Will we be reading and drinking hot coco all weekend? Will we be getting out of the house? I don’t know if it’s like this everywhere, but in Oklahoma winter weather gets hyped and then there’s a good chance nothing happens.

5) Did you miss this post?

Don’t skip your December birthday. Where are my holiday birthday people at? Do you find it tough to celebrate or skip it all together? How do you celebrate your birthday if it falls around the holidays?

6) What did my kids create?

This is from about a month ago too. I know. I’m behind with everything in my life right now. Instead of calling it Week in Review I should be calling this post Things I Forgot I Wanted to Post About Awhile Ago.

Anyway, at school my son’s class read Tom the Turkey, about a turkey who disguises himself so he won’t be eaten for Thanksgiving. The kindergarten class got their own Tom to disguise. My son choose one of his favorite book characters, David, from the book No, David. I thought it was clever, and he did a good job.

They displayed all the Tom’s in the hallway at school. Either there are some very advanced kindergartners or we may be one of the few that has our kids do their own projects. The other Toms were sure cute, but they were also pretty advanced.

Thanks for reading. How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?

  1. Hi ya – looks like and interesting week. I’m a December baby and I don’t know if I miss out or not really. To be honest I would rather not bother with Christmas and celebrate my birthday. When’s yours Lacey?

    1. Hey Simon! I have to work against being a hum bug for the kids. The holidays usually wear me down.
My birthday is at the beginning of Jan. So by then I’m usually tired of going and doing and just want to relax.

  2. The library theme is adorable. What better way to make reading look like oodles of fun than to add a train? The camp you went to sounds interesting and I’m glad it was fun for all. Clever acronym.

  3. Hey Lacey! First of all — Love the fishing pictures!!! What a fantastic idea– the camp sounds perfect for a guy Lincoln’s age! And California weather is the same way. The news often promises rain on the way and then nothing! But this week we had a real record breaking rain day– Loved it– except for a leak from our family room ceiling! Ugh. And– Great December Birthday article– My Grandmother’s birthday was December 24th and we’d just have a cake and sing Happy Birthday– and then dig into Christmas gifts! Hope your weekend’s going well– snow or not. hugs!

    1. We had a lot of fun. I love that Riley was doing all the outdoor stuff in her pink leather jacket too. That’s just so Riley.

I know the weather people can’t be accurate all the time, but it seems like they hype it up maybe? And I hope your ceiling is an easy fix?

My dad’s is the 13th. We do exactly for him what you did for your grandmother. He doesn’t seem to mind, but I wonder if it as a kid it bothered him having a birthday so close to Christmas.

How did your weekend end up??

      1. HI Lacey– We had neighbors in for cookies yesterday (Sunday)– loads of kids so we had crafts in the kitchen and they played in the backyard in the leaves. Everyone stayed a long time- really fun. How about you all???

      2. Oh that does sound fun! Very festive 🙂
Good, we had Christmas 1 of 4. Christmases with the kids used to be kinda stressful. I would spend the entire time making sure nothing was broken and that nobody ran off or melted down, Now that the 2 bigs aren’t toddlers at the same time it is seeming more fun than stressful.

      3. Oh gosh, you’re right Lacey. Having the grand-girls being 7, 9 & 11, they enjoy it all so much and are actually helpful!! I can’t wait to have them here this weekend! Merriest Christmas to you all 5! Hope you post come pics! xox

  4. Hope you enjoyed the non-existent storm! I still stayed in and drank cocoa and watched movies…or as I like to call it, “my typical weekend” 🤣
Seriously though, what a disappointment. I was wishing for snow!

    1. We did the same thing Colleen. Usually I don’t like winter weather, but we were all looking forward to this one too. It was going to be actual snow and on a Saturday. The kids were pumped. Ah well.
