Week in Review

Week in Review 12/21/2018

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series, Week in Review, posted every Friday. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down, and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

My friend tagged me in the comments of this SNL clip about what Christmas for parents is like. It’s spot on.

2) What post should you check out?

For a laugh check out Family Sends the Most Awkward Christmas Cards for 15 Years. Too funny!

3) What’s been going on this week?

We are getting ready for Christmas and the kids’ winter break. I have to give a shout out to my dad and step-mom for getting the kids a play set for the backyard and my wonderful husband for putting it together in December.

We made a visit to see Santa that turned out to be the funniest one yet. The baby was okay with it. This is as close as my son would get. My daughter wouldn’t even get in the picture. They were excited beforehand though.

4) What’s going on this weekend?

We are continuing our annual holiday marathon of family celebrations with Christmas 2 of 4 and 3 of 4. When my kids were younger this was very stressful. Essentially we were taking 2 toddlers to not-kid-proofed homes and off their schedule. Also, before my son was diagnosed with autism we didn’t know why certain things were so difficult for him. A tide has begun to turn though. The two bigger kids are now at an age were things are more manageable. We are actually enjoying the holidays instead of just getting through them. I guess I’m a recovering bah hum bug mom.

5) Did you miss this post?

Book Reviews: Beartown, Before We Were Yours, Agatha H. and the Airship City Check out some book reviews to see if there’s anything you want to read over the holidays.IMG_5339

6) What did my kids create?

Christmas cookies with their cousins at Christmas 1 of 4!

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a Merry Christmas!

  1. Christmas with kiddos is a lot more stressful than people realize. especially when the holidays are not celebrated within your own home. Did you find an autism friendly santa visit? they aren’t common, but are becoming more and more. so many kids that age don’t know what to think about the man in red when they see him up close. even if they are excited to see him they are very cautious when they get close no worries… it will still create memories for later

    1. Yes! @ the holidays being stressful. I think some people in our circles don’t get or have forgotten or haven’t worked and had kids. But yes it isn’t more stressful than is realized.
There were a few places that had autism friendly santas, but we weren’t able to make those. We were the last ones to visit here though. I thought that may help.
      Merry Christmas to you!

  2. Sounds like Christmas rolled along well Lacey!! And I don’t know why, but Kids and Christmas cookies is one of my favorite parts of Christmas!! Just sitting down together and letting the sprinkles fly! Looks like Riley and Lincoln enjoyed it! And the backyard playset looks awesome!! I’m sure it will be tons of fun for your three. Sorry I’ve been away from reading blogs for a couple weeks. But, kids left yesterday and now it’s just Larry and me in our quiet house, reading away! hugs hugs!

    1. Oh I understand! It seems like I get to catch up on blogs about once a month now. Yikes!
OH I love the Christmas cookie tradition too. I think they like when they get permission to be messy with food; so that makes it fun.
      Any plans for New Years?

      1. Hi Lacey– nope, we thought about calling friends to get together, but after all the Christmas hub bub we stayed home. My mom and friend Jenon came over for cinnamon rolls and the Rose Parade on tv the next morning– about my speed! Did you all get out and celebrate?? xo
