Week in Review

Week in Review 1/25/19

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series posted every Friday, Week in Review. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down, and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

A lot. So much in the news this week made me feel like our country is spinning out of control. For the sake of picking one thing though I’ll go with the Oklahoma legislature’s response to the teacher walkout from April. This week they’ve introduced bills that would prohibit further walkouts and require payment for protesting at the state capitol. It’s not exactly the change I was hoping to see . . .

2) What post should you check out?

Brittni is my blog sister over at OKCMB. She also has a personal blog, Marci & Me, where she focuses on simplifying and living intentionally. Check out her post 5 Ways to Simplify a Getaway. I do #1 and #2 but could sure work on #5.

3) What’s been going on this week?

Sickness. Ack. I had a sinus infection at the end of last week. Then a stomach bug got passed around the house. One by one we all fell, except the baby. And I am just praying she doesn’t get it. It would break my heart to see this little face sick.

4) What’s going on this weekend?

I’m pretty pumped. This morning is our first school awards assembly for the two “big” kiddos. They are getting an award for an art competition where they submitted pieces about their everyday heroes. Then I think we will play the rest by ear since everyone is getting over being sick.

5) Did you miss this post?

How Do You Handle Negative Reactions about Breastfeeding in Public? After an experience I had I’d love to know how you’ve dealt with any negative incidents.

6) What did my kids create?

Wild Things. My daughter has been reading the book and watching the movie Where the Wild Things Are. She made her own Wild Things. I could eat them up I love them so.

Thanks for reading. How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?

  1. How can it be legal to force people to pay to protest? Aren’t we, by law, free to assemble anywhere and voice our grievances? There’s something hinky, and morally wrong, with this proposition. What the heck!

    1. I think the language in the proposed bills states if teachers walkout again they won’t be able to get paid for the time they area striving. The other wants it to cost $50,000 to protest at the state capital to cover most for extra security and cleanup. We pay taxes though. Shouldn’t that cover it?

      1. most teacher contracts have a no strike clause. This would make it so teachers will not get paid if they strike and possibly lose their jobs for that. Those teachers often have to “Work to contract” to get the point across which means that teachers only work the hours they are contracted to work, nothing is done beyond that time… no work corrected, not attending after school activities, not working on lesson plans, parent communication or other things other than when they are at school. it does get the attention, but not as much as striking
