Week in Review

Week in Review 8/30/19

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series posted every Friday, Week in Review. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down, and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

Lift by Kelly Corrigan. If you have a free hour and want to feel all the feels I recommend reading Lift, a letter Corrigan wrote to her 2 daughters. There were several passages I stopped to re-read and let sink in. It is truthful and honest and relatable. And like everything else written by Corrigan, I’ll probably be reading the entire thing twice.

2) What post should you check out?

Cereal Treats on the blog Broke Party Girl. This is simple and genius, and I wonder why I never thought to this before reading her post. I’ve pinned this to do with kids ASAP. You should too.

3) What’s been going on this week?

Oy. It’s been nuts. A storm blew through Monday night taking out power to most of Oklahoma City. Tuesday there was no electricity at home or the office. My phone died too. So I couldn’t work. By Wednesday we had power at home but only partial power at the office. So the week was sort of weirdly pieced together trying to get done what I could and where I could. Between that and holiday weekend, it’s going to take me a while to figure out what day it is.

Here’s a picture of the baby just because. I know she looks sad, but really she is focused. Daniel Tiger was on.

4) What’s going on this weekend?

A family cookout. It’s not supposed to get up to a hundred million degrees this weekend. So the family cookout we are going to will be enjoyable. Maybe we can even get some fishing in.

5) Did you miss this post?

Chili Cheese Enchiladas. What can I say about this recipe? Well, I can eat an entire pan of these in one sitting.

6) What did my kids create?

Dino King and a movie theater for their toys. We’ve been watching the old school The Lion King. A lot. It’s inspired my son to make a spinoff, Dino King.

Then my son and daughter turned the living room into a movie theater for their toys so their toys could also enjoy watching The Lion King.

Yep, that’s Monster right in the middle.

Thanks for reading. How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?

– Lacey

  1. I think your daughter looks thoughtful and serious like a college professor who is not entirely buying your story about why you’ll need to turn in your essay one week late. Taking it in, not necessarily believing it.

  2. Oh Lacey, love this!! Your kids are so creative––Dino King is great! Plus, it is very considerate to make a theater so their toys could enjoy The Lion King. 🙂 I hope you are all having a fantastic holiday weekend and BBQ.

I have news. I’m going to NYC for 6 weeks! I rented an AirB&B from Sept 11 – Oct 26. I’ll be volunteering at the United Nations and reconnecting with a political person that I used to work for (did you know that I was the Chief of Staff for a NYS Assemblymember?) – plus possibly meet with clients in my temporary “office”! Thank you for your prayers, and your love. You have such a gift of empathy.

Sending you and your family all the best Lacey!

    1. Very exciting, Debbie! No, I didn’t know that about you, but it also doesn’t surprise me 🙂 As always, I can’t wait to hear about your work and adventures. What are you going to be doing until the 11th?

  3. Lift sounds like a beautiful book. The storm sounds so scary, how hard it must have been to be without elecricity. 😭 Baby looks so cute focused on the TV & I hope you all had a nice family cookout!

When I was a kiddo, I’d lay out all my toys like a classroom & read picture books/show them the pictures after each page lol. We love our little stuffed babies at their age! ♡
