Week in Review

Week in Review 10/4/19

I hope everyone had a great week. Thanks for checking out my weekly series posted every Friday, Week in Review. Enjoy a recap of how the week went down, and tell me about yours.

1) What’s gotten my attention this week?

Harpy Eagles. Have you ever heard of these? I stumbled upon these kinda beautiful, kinda creepy, and nearly extinct birds while browsing the ole interweb. I haven’t been able to get these images out of my head since.

2) What post should you check out?

Tide Pod Pumpkin Containers. So this is a cute idea and just in time for fall. Check it out.

3) What’s been going on this week?

Homework. Look, guys, I’m 100% pro-education and teachers. This year though, I’m quickly heading towards a not-so-pro opinion about homework. Last year my daughter was in PreK and didn’t have any. My son was in Kindergarten. He had one worksheet a night and already knew the Kindergarten sight words. It wasn’t too bad.

This year with my daughter in Kindergarten and son in 1st grade every night they each may have a worksheet, 20 minutes of reading, sight words, and my son has spelling words this year. By the time we let them unwind after school, have dinner, and finish homework, it is time for bed.

I don’t mind a little bit of it. Between both kids though, homework is taking up most of our evenings. I’m also on the fence about how much of it is age-appropriate. I am not letting them see my doubts, but I am certainly starting to have doubts about the benefit of all this work at home after these little kids have been in school all day.

4) What’s going on this weekend?

I’m not entirely sure yet, but I have some ideas. Maybe a Touch the Truck event? Maybe a kids workshop at Home Depot? Maybe some college football and naps? Maybe I can sneak away to watch the Downton Abbey movie?

5) Did you miss this post?

Our Adagio Tea Party. This was fun, and it might be time to do it again.

6) What did my kids create?

Fall plans. They have been talking about what decorations they want to put on the front porch, what pumpkin patches to visit, and how they want to carve their jack-o-lanterns. They even drafted some of their ideas.

Thanks for reading. How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?

  1. The birds are so cool!! Thanks for sharing!

As for homework…if we focused on learning and outcomes rather than rote repetition that’s really about “compliance” and conformity…don’t get me started! 😆

  2. Oh my gosh, those Happy Eagles are so creepy but I hope they do not go extinct. I’d love to see one! The homework your kiddos are getting does sound a bit ridiculous.

Thanks for sharing, Lacey. Hope you have the best weekend! ♡

      1. I looked them up a little more, they made me take Brazil off my bucket list since that’s where they are the most common lol. I did have a pretty good weekend, thank you for asking! ❤
